“Am I” – A poem by Graham Russell – Air Supply en Mexico 2019

When I was very young … when I was eleven years old I discovered… …the beauty of words and I fell in love with words. I’m going to recite you a few… …that I hope …you’ll understand …even though our languaje would be different …the intent and the passion …will be just the same. -CROWD CHEERING – (Woman in the Audience) “I love you!!!” Thank you my dear (in a funny voice) I love you too. This is… a small… salute to you… our audience, because without you we wouldn’t be here this evening, and… we are so proud and happy that… we can share this night together. -CROWD CHEERING AGAIN- This is very short… and very simple… …as all things should be. This is called: “Am I” Am I the pebble lying in the stream… or the water freed from melting snow. Am I the dreamers sleepers dream… that has no home… nowhere to go. Am I the though to build the bridge… between two points of view… I am at least one thing I know: A solitary monument…. that always longs for you. Am I the quiver of a desert flower… or the roots that lie in sacred ground… Am I trapped in my ivory tower… until the day I knocked it down. Am I the curious dragonfly… of orange and blue… I am all things… of that, I’m sure… but nothing less and nothing more… Than one that longs… for you.
