Gene Odom’s Poetry: Cold Dark Mississippi Night

– Some time back, years back, many years back I wrote a song that I’m gonna try to sing called “Cold Dark Mississippi Night.” It goes, “On a cold dark Mississippi night “Angels came holding a glowing light. “They took some and
they left others behind “To live in this life
to their chosen time. “I owe not much to the people I’m around, “But I sure owe a lot to
that Mississippi town. “Your people came through water and mud “To lend a helping hand
whenever they could. “On a cold dark Mississippi night “Angels came holding a glowing light. “They took some and
they left others behind “To live in this life
to their chosen time.” Let me see what’s at the end of it. “Looking at this place from the air “I’ve heard you can see the
shadow of a great big bird “That flew these parts not too long ago “With music and song
that will make you glow “On a cold dark Mississippi night “Angels came holding a glowing light “They took some and left others behind “To live in this life
to their chosen time.” That’s a tough one.
