Graphic Novels Wrap Up

hi everyone my name is Cassie and welcome to my channel bookish for I said I'm doing a quick graphic novel wrap-up June I'm gonna shoot for graphic novels and that was a first for me because I've never read any graphic novels before I figured alright this is what I'm gonna start I didn't actually get any physical copies of them I borrowed them all from the library on my iPad so I was able to see the graphics and that was really cool I don't know if they're better to read as an actual physical copy or not but that's just what I had to work with so let's get right to it the very first one that I read is a lumberjanes Volume one and I absolutely loved it I think that's my favorite graphic novel out of all the ones that I've read I did this one 4 out of 5 stars it's very feel-good it's about a group of girls because they're lumberjanes and there are kind of like Girl Scouts so they live in this like camp out in the forest and they have like their camp guide person and they're always like out getting into all kinds of adventures and there's like a villain that they come across and there's you know there's just a bunch of trouble that happens but it's all very light and they're not and that like in doing anything dangerous but I don't know just very funny and very light so I enjoyed that and I would definitely continue on with those and to see what kind of adventurous thing they get into next time the next two that I read are saga volume 1 and saga volume 2 and that was way different from lumberjanes and ended up giving it 3 out of 5 stars I gave the first time a second volume 3 out of 5 stars and this one is more like sci-fi in space just completely different basically there's this guy in a girl and they're from like different planets or like different you know whatever and they hook up and they get married and they have a kid and they're not supposed to be together because all different like worlds and people and stuff like are fighting each other and they're trying to escape all that in a nutshell there's a lot more going on in addition to all that but just this one was different because I enjoyed the graphics in it like I really like the art and I really liked how creative and unique and neat it was um at times I was kind of I don't know I feel like you have to be in the mood to read one of those graphic novels just because there's some violence there's people getting tailed like there's dark undertones things like that so I feel like you have to be in the mood to read that but overall it was pretty enjoyable and I would definitely read the following volumes as well whenever I get around to barring them from the library but I think overall it was really good I mean I know a lot of people have read saga before because I've seen lots of people talk about it so it's definitely good and I feel like it's probably one of them I don't know what are the better ones to start out when they guess but I don't know because these are only like the first graphic novels I've ever come across the last one that I read is called V for Vendetta and I gave it 3 out of 5 stars I've actually seen the movie V for Vendetta a few years back and I enjoyed it and I kind of knew what this graphic novel was gonna be about but that was okay and while I enjoyed it because I just liked how many an interesting it is I didn't really like how it got kind of boring at times there was a lot of material I guess from you when I'm reading a graphic novel I like it when there's like less reading and more just like looking at pictures and things but I don't know be from identify like it was kind of like a book and it felt kind of long and at Parts I was a little bored but overall it was interesting and obviously if you haven't seen the movie V for Vendetta and you haven't read the graphic novel it's about this guy who ends up kind of trying to like not overthrow the government but you know like kind of goes against the government and what they said four and what they're doing and like the all that sort of thing um so I liked it and I feel like maybe but from what I remember I think the movie did do a good job with it so I did like it maybe I should watch the movie again right after reading this graphic novel to see if there's any differences or maybe one's better than the other I don't know but overall it was good too and I would be curious to read more graphic novels that are kind of have a lot of more reading rather than just looking at pictures and stuff I don't know anyways those are the graphic novels that I read in the month of June please let me know if you've read any of these and what you thought and also please let me know if there's any other graphic novels they would recommend for a newbie because I'm definitely looking for good suggestions because I don't really know which ones to pick up so thank you so much for watching and I'll see you next time

  1. There are so many great graphic novels. I too read Alan Moore as one of my first introductions to the genre. I'd recommend Watchmen but since you said you didn't like a lot of text, maybe avoid that one too.
I'd definitely recommend the Fables series though. It's about fairy tale characters that have been displaced in our modern world and how they have or have not adapted to it.

  2. I really want to read lumberjanes so I’m so glad to see you love it!πŸ’œπŸ’œ

  3. I would recommend Descender. It is a sci-fi graphic novel series about a boy robot trying to get back to his family in a time when robots have been wiped out and their very existence outlawed. If you would like to try out manga, I'd suggest picking up Bride's Story or Emma by Kaoru Mori. Both are fantastic historical fiction series. πŸ™‚

  4. I felt the same way about V for Vendetta. It was good, but yes kind of slow at times. I recently picked up the first volume of Saga and am looking forward to starting it πŸ™‚ if you want to try a more horror/supernatural series try Locke & Key by Joe Hill. It’s great and I love the art style! I also really enjoyed Seconds by Bryan Lee O’Malley .

  5. Saga is one of the most amazing graphic novels so far! It’s just amazing! Image has really good stuff, like Walking dead 😊 V for vendetta it’s not at all an easy read… Alan moore is amazing! Check out Enki bilal, Jodorowski or Moebius, as non-american writers. You could try Fables, Y the last man, Locke and key, Sandman (a classic!). So many options πŸ˜ƒ

  6. SAGA is so good. =)
V for Vendetta is not a graphic novel to newbie level =P, IMO it's not easy to read. Alan Moore stories are not easy to read. xD
Do you like super heroes? What kind of stories do you like? There's so many options. =)
Pick one by Jeff Lemire, Essex County or The Underwater Welder, pick Nimona, from the same author than Lumberjanes, pick one by Craig Thompson, Blankets for sure =P, pick This One Summer, by Jillian Tamaki, the art is gorgeous, pick some manga, pick Persepolis, pick The Sculpor, by Scott McCloud, it's fantastic, etc. I don't know. xD

  7. Great wrap up! I love graphic novels. I have read Saga vol. 1 and loved it. I haven't read enough of them lately so I need to remedy that pronto.

  8. Great to see more people doing more graphic novel reviews along side books πŸ™‚ Personally I love the physical copy but like you said work with what you can! πŸ™‚
