How It Works: Internet of Things

the internet of things is changing much about the world we live in from the way we drive to how we make purchases and even how we get energy for our homes sophisticated sensors and chips are embedded in the physical things that surround us each transmitting valuable data data that lets us better understand how these things work and work together but how exactly do all these devices share such large quantities of data and how do we put that information to work whether we’re improving the production of a factory giving city residents real-time updates on where to park or monitoring our personal health it’s the common Internet of Things platform that brings us diverse information together and provides the common language for the devices and apps to communicate with each other the process starts with the devices themselves which securely communicate with an Internet of Things platform this platform integrates the data from many devices and applies analytics to share the most valuable data with applications that address industry specific needs let’s start with a simple example a car after taking a long road trip Rebecca notices that her check engine light has come on she knows that she needs to have her car looked at by a mechanic but is not sure whether it’s something minor or something that needs immediate attention as it turns out the sensor that triggered Rebecca’s check engine light monitors the pressure in her brake line this sensor is one of many monitoring processes throughout the car which are constantly communicating with each other a component in the car called the diagnostic bus gathers the data from all these sensors then passes it to a gateway in the car the Gateway integrates and sorts the data from the sensors this way only the most relevant diagnostic information will be transmitted to the manufacturers platform but before sending this organized data the cars gateway and platform must first register with each other and confirm a secure communication the platform is constantly gathering and storing thousands of bits of information from Rebecca’s car and hundreds of thousands of cars like hers building an historical record in a secure database the manufacturers added rules and logic to the platform so when Rebecca’s car sends a signal that her brake fluid has dropped below a recommended level the platform triggers an alert in her car the manufacturer also uses the platform to create and manage applications that solve specific issues in this case the manufacturer can deploy an application on the platform called the asset management system this application oversees all of their customers cars on the road as well as all the parts in their warehouses it uses the data from Rebecca’s car to offer her a potential appointment time to service her car directions to the nearest certified dealer and a coupon for the service what’s more the app will ensure that Rebecca’s brakes are covered under her warranty that the correct replacement part is ordered and then sent to the dealership so it is ready when she arrives but the manufacturers analysis does not stop there they have also deployed a continuous engineering application that tracks not only Rebecca’s car but hundreds of thousands of others looking for ways to improve the design and manufacturing process of the car itself if the same problem in her brake line crops up in a critical number of other cars the manufacturer uses applications custom-built for the automobile industry to pinpoint the exact problem they can see if these cars were made at the same factory used the same parts or came off the assembly line on the same day so what do all these pieces add up to streamlined inventory management for the dealer a better safer car from the manufacturer and for Rebecca it means she can be back on the road faster and get to where she’s going safely all thanks to the Internet of Things

  1. invest your time in learning IOT . IOT can let you earn a lot in 2019 or 2020.

  2. So if I purchase a car I would still be lacking pure ownership as company constantly monitor it and they can also make normal requirements as mandatory or critical, I'll lose up my freedom to search for a good spare parts dealer and to fix it in my budget.

  3. Thanks for your wonderful, informative and helpful post. Really it
will help the people of similar mind. I am requesting you to continue
with safe effort. Wish your success by this blog.

  6. don't be amazed with computers..the most sophisticated  program is still a bunch of on and off switches, and on and off switches that can turn on or off groups of on and off switches……..It's great for those that wish to control….

  8. great video. I think that people who didn't know what the internet of things already know 🙂 I've been using this solution for a long time and from the development of medical devices software (https://pro4people.com/medical-device-software-development/) thanks to I know much more about this film! Thanks! 🙂

  9. I agree with other commenters that the future is looking bleak but not hopeless if you're smart. Having an option for raw cars without all these sensors and auto-controls is the answer to avoid hacking deaths or tampering.

  10. IoT will save lot of issues that people don't even think about or at least do not make the connection. Founder of Be notify IoT

  11. Basically non-living will communicate more than the living, and people will rely more and more
On those, opposing what is demonstrated I think every aspect should be median, no more or less.

  12. If people actually start to buy this shit, the AI's will destroy mankind. This is complete and total control and surveillance. The next steps are 666 chips in right hands/foreheads and by this point it wont be optional

  13. Not a threat, only lazy idiots will buy this stuff. Oh wait, that means most people will. Nevermind…

  14. Think about this. If your check engine lights comes up when you have a break related problem, clearly who ever manufactured this car was GENIUS !!!.
With such complexity of modern cars, they are specifically designed NOT to help you identify the problem BUT to get you to the dealer to spend your money.

  17. Great video!!

Thanks for sharing this video it is very informative. https://bit.ly/2N3hIza

  18. as long as there is an opt out, its just great. I'm having already hard times with shameless up selling strategies at the stores when paying the stuff I bought. greed is worse than ebola

  21. Hi Can I used this video as part of our B-Rolls for a TV episode for Internet of Things?

  22. The data is then sold to 3rd parties who then provide you with a more personalized life experience…. or psychological manipulation to drain your piggy bank.

  23. Not only is this obviously super dystopian propaganda, a lot of the information is factually incorrect.

  24. Look up Agenda 21 & 2030 people. This is the beginning of the centralisation of power over humanity!

  25. If you want real professional scientific understandings of the internet of things go to infowars.com or the Alex jones show. Alex jones is a world leading expert in the new world advancments.

  26. THIS is why Smart Contracts and other Cryptocurrencies will change the world… HODL!!

  27. Skynet goes live 2024….internet of things goes conscious 2029….bye bye stupid humans!!!!

  28. I always thought the warning lights on cars came on because of sensors located inside the car, and that there wasn’t any connection to the manufacturers or anything. Or is Rebecca’s car one of the newer models?

  29. Internet of things is one of the single greatest risks to national security. Secure database my ass.

  30. Bwahahaha. These out of touch elites and their economic illiteracy. I guess they don't know what market saturation is. People aren't going to buy this shit, because 1: Income inequality is too extreme in America right now- people are trying to survive at this point. 2. People already have cars. 3. People don't want to buy Skynet technologies. This is a total bust (a major depression) and a currency crisis (due to currently low interest rates).

  32. IoT? I'm all in!

    My only concern is:

who the hell will pay for the 5G connection data of my town's connected traffic lights and light bulbs?

    Let me rephrase:

IoT? I'm all in…as long as it's free!

  33. It is not even going to be Rebecca's car. We wouldn't be owning cars. Self-driving cars would be able to come pic you up and drop you off, via an app on your phone. If something goes wrong with the motor, it would drive into a workshop where robots would fix it.

  34. I'm a confident millennial, but I'm in awe of how technology is evolving exponentially. The new generation are growing up with the latest digital software and devices like having an extra pair of limbs. I feel so sentimental when I remember the good old days when I brought my text document on a floppy disk to school. Technology is molding the evolution of our society.

  35. we just want to listen to music on you tube and close it with the music still playing.

  36. What I would give to time machine myself back to 1870-90 and stay there. Biggest problem was horses plopping in the street. There was no cancer from radiation and there was no personal income tax. All there was was a lot of individual freedom.

  37. My question is when the computer chips start failing and technology breaks down what will happen to the internet of things? We can only go so far before our Natural resources to create this technology begins to diminish.. and just like every Empire throughout History has Risen and Fallen, the Internet will fall too because nothing lasts forever.

  38. okay first of all, those meters that tell you need to change oil are full of shit and usually you can drive way past 3000 miles okay. Don't trust the internets or things. Deep web is after you. Check back in the mirror, they probably already got your reflection doing push up before it b4ecomes infectious.

  39. Thank you this is very good information for me. And very amazing to see this information. And I have done one project of iot. This is a very interesting technology…
    🙂

  40. Smartphones have certainly changed the way we compute. With these devices, we do not need to stick ourselves to desktops for any sort of computing requirements or to carry bulky laptops for replying mails on the go. Smartphones are the lightest computers we can carry in our pocket and, we can use these devices for roughly everything they can do. These devices have brought the whole world of internet right under our fingertips, just a few taps away.

Anyways, read the below. This might help.

  41. purely an example. not explaining the concept overall. not even briefly

  42. I like how the word secure is emphasized. It's secure untill it's hacked within 30 minutes:) haha give me a break with this secure word

  43. The IoT in cars will hopefully detect drunk drivers, bank robbers, terrorists and shut down their system to save other peoples lives.

  44. So everything requires Internet and electricity. Great idea. So if a sola flair comes and nothing works for a long time everyone goes nuts… yeah great idea.

  45. The manufacturer… The manufacturer… manufacturer…

God, who wrote this fucking script man.

  46. we should make rules so manufactories can't overcharge people … if a smart car breaks the mony is on manufactories not people ! btw same thing for smart phones too !

  47. I'm happy to see other people are as skeptical as I am, they painted such a pretty picture but I was looking for exploits the whole time.

  48. Despite the rapid technological progress, supply chain management remains a complex task. The product's way from the manufacturer to the final distribution involves numerous point-to-point interactions that are in most cases supervised by emails and phone calls. Items can transit through different locations, and it may be hard to maintain end-to-end visibility on their way. The lack of control on any stage can dramatically harm the efficiency of planning and slow down the entire supply chain.

Luckily, there are some technologies, such as the Internet of Things, that can restructure and optimize these processes. Such networks already contain about 26 billion devices, and this number is expected to triple by 2025.

  49. The scary thing is it’s growing so rapidly and without any set standards. We also don’t automatically think about the security issues involved. This is our latest video The Internet of Things https://youtu.be/IQkRscixagM
