How To Know When To Keep Pushing An Idea | Pastor Steven Furtick

when do you know when to keep pushing an
idea or when it’s done the part that makes me want to take a nap is when I
have to organize it that’s my sticking point not like
creatively you gotta have the self-awareness
to know what’s the part where I want to quit and around that part of your
creative process if you can pay attention to that pattern and you can
put something in place that helps you get through it you’ll release more stuff
into the world sometimes that’s collaboration I would
probably never finish a worship song if it weren’t for co-writing and I know
that and so I know oh it’s time for me to bring someone in now on this idea on
a sermon it’s trickier because ain’t nobody else to bring in on it and I’m
gonna tell you another thing be very careful
sharing your creative embryo with somebody showing it like it’s a baby
picture cuz all embryos are ugly you know that right
there is no such thing as a cute fetus I really think that’s something right
there there’s no such thing as a cute fetus and so when you’re telling people
like oh check out this this this check out this thing I quit doing that years
ago the reason is because at this stage of my experience I have enough reps to
trust the experience that God has enabled me to have I don’t trust my
flesh but I trust the experience that God is in the gift and and and the
position and all that that my anointing all that that being said if you start
trying to explain it to someone it’s a little weird it’s like trying to explain
a dance but not doing it try it it’s the hardest thing in the world or trying to
explain a song but you can’t sing it or you can’t make a beat and I always think
that when you share something like I wonder if Instagram makes this worse
because we think something and immediately need validation that it’s good
rather than you know some of you in the room are more patient and I admire you
because once I have the thought I want to share it with everybody right
now and I don’t want to take time and study it and put it in order that part
wears me out and I have to pay attention to my cycles and if I start sharing it
with like Holly for instance she loves me so much and she is like my number one
fan and my mom’s my number one fan and I just said that in case they’re both
watching they’re my Co number one fans that being said she makes this furrowed
face if I start telling her my idea too soon and she’s like it almost happened a
minute ago when I said confident in better things concerning you see how
y’all are right now I’m intimidated because that phrase is loaded with
meaning for me because I studied it for two hours this morning I studied it for
two hours I got Abraham Hagar and Sarai and Isaac all loaded into that phrase
for me the Old Covenant the New Covenant I’ve got a proverb that connects it’s a
loaded phrase now but for you it’s still just a phrase so imagine that I’m going
75 miles an hour to get here you’re on the side of the road and I’m like get in
and that’s what it’s like when you’ve been thinking of an idea and you’re like
isn’t this great and you’re mad that people don’t think it’s great but they’re still
in park and you’ve been living with this for a long time and you can see things
about it so you have to know when to slow down and bring people along and you
have to know you have to know when to shut the door and keep people out and
then you have to know when is that moment that I want to subject this
creative idea to judgment now maybe I’m the only one who feels this way I
believe everybody has the right to express their creativity as long as it’s
not anything you know that violates our faith you can express it you can write
poems sonnets haikus you know what else you could you can you
can write a song if it’s for you and the Lord
then the the ultimate goal is just expression maybe it’s therapeutic when
you bring it into a church context I’m not creating a sermon for the purpose of
self-expression although that’s gonna be part of it it’s an act of service so
it’s not just oh what inspires me it’s what can I what can I give to others
that they can digest and so I can’t give like a two-year-old filet mignon that’s
called casting pearls before pigs pigs aren’t bad they just don’t have any use
for pearls it’s a conflict of nature so when you share an idea too soon what I
think it does it’s like it’s like Salmonella it’s like everybody goes away
feeling bad it’s like you don’t think no the dish was going to be good but but
knowing sometimes when an idea I think that’s a muscle that you develop you
learn it through failure you learn it through going wow I thought this was a
lot better than it was and then I went to pitch it and we’ve all had those
moments where you cross the threshold from this is my personal creative thing
that’s in my journal and now this is a blog post the moment that you express it
you subject it to judgment I have some notebooks that I lock up they actually
have a lock on them that’s where I can write anything this is not just a prayer
notebook this is everything notebook but I’ll lock it up that’s not for the
pulpit that stuff I’m processing as a man as a sinner as somebody who has a
million questions and then I have to know God I’m gonna stand before people
now what am I ready to share with them what have you given me enough wisdom on
that it’s not going to be me bleeding on them and if it’s personal I always have
this rule okay mmm never show your wounds you cover your wounds so they can heal
you show your scars after it is healed then you can show it to somebody but you
don’t get up in the pulpit as a preacher and go y’all me and my wife hadn’t spoke
all week and I don’t know if we will again this week let’s open the Word of
God we all struggle and we all need grace now the whole church is praying so hard
for you and your marriage they can’t hear what you’re saying but it might be good
like after you’ve come through the other side of that to do it so God am I ready
to share this is this something that’s still too raw is this gonna make
everybody sick is this something that that actually is for another time hey

  1. Good morning ๐ŸŒž ๐ŸŒž I love this God bless you and your family

  3. Thank you so much for this! ๐ŸŒผ
The parked and fast car analogy was so accurate! It cleared up A LOT for me! ๐Ÿƒ

  4. This is so true pastor. Every thought that is cultivating in your mind is not ready for others to process. If you tell people your issues ( other than your prayer partner) you risk discouragement, it's always best to give the testimony of how God helped you overcome and what He did to get you where you're at in growth. I like the way you explained it. God truly works through you. We're blessed to have you.

  5. God bless everyone! Have a blessed day and thank you for this Word Pastor, it was a great start to my morning๐Ÿ™Œโค๏ธ

  7. Blessed of the Lord.I started watching your sermon that mentors me every day when you were 1GB.The beautifier Has done it again.Coming from far and going far man of God

  8. If I could like this video multiple times. I would.
    "all embryos are ugly"… ๐Ÿ™†๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

  9. This is so great to hear as a parent teaching my children about God๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜Š

  10. Thereโ€™s a project that Iโ€™d like to work on, and itโ€™s one concerning God. Yesterday I asked to help me guide Him, and to let me know if this is part of His plan for me. This morning I stumbled across this video. I believe that this was Gods answer.

  11. 1. Not seeing is not equal to not existing;
    2. I doubt what's beautiful from your prospectives.

  12. On point! Thank you for being so transparent with your process, this helped me at so many levels.

  13. This is such a good video!
But! It literally does not answer the question I clicked on it for ๐Ÿ˜‚
How do you know when to keep pushing for an idea?

  14. Don't share your wounds; share your scars. My goodness, the answers some thoughts and questions that I've had for years! Thank you so much.

  15. This is just wow!
I like listening to Pastor Steven teach. He's sound !

  16. I appreciate what Steven Furtick said because there are times where God speaks to me and I want to share God's word that would be so full of wisdom but I would think that people weren't ready to hear it. Though, I'm aware that if it is his word, it's not for me to decide whether someone is ready or not to hear it. But what gets me the most is how people look at me. Someone could say anything and I'd write it off as whatever, because in that moment they said what they were thinking. But it's another thing when people just look at you. For me it opens a whole new world of possibilities of what they could be thinking. and sometimes it's hard to shares his word. But again I appreciated that he talked about this because he hit the nail on the head with everything he said. Sometimes I can't put into words what I want to say in regards to this topic but he said it in ways I would have struggled to say. Such a great message as always.

  17. never show your wounds until its healed…you show your scars….amen…thank you Jesus for Pastor steven Furtick..

  18. This blessed me so much Pastor Steven , 'Jy is gevaarlik '(Afrikaans Language).

  19. So true pastor best to show the scars than to share the wound thank you pastor Steven I really enjoyed to learn about GOD and live as a Christian ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

  20. Thank you. That answered my previous question.

The only follow up question in response would be, how do you get others to hop in the proverbial car when you have slowed down to nearly a stop or a crawl?

Or do I have to stop completely before others can hop in?

  21. So true! โค๐ŸŽถ God will guide you to the right people at the right time.

  22. Ideas are seeds..that needs to be processed n refined to a place that can fit into the minds of others..n that'd take time..
And btw,i find this lil.problem of..a gap between charismatic and rationality..where ideas are not refined or contextualised in a way that we the PEOPLE can make sense of,in our personal life..n this produce misconception n results in confussion n sometimes huge harm to the soul..which i am kind of victim of such misconception..but i say this not blame any..but sometimes there could be such issues if not contemplated well!

i love mr.furtick, for his real n honest way of presenting Jesus!

  23. Hey, so here's my input.

Separate your worldly stuff with your church stuff.

And that's because tot aren't a musician. You are an evangelist.

  24. I don't feel like the question was answered for me. How do I know to keep pushing an idea?

  25. This spoke to me so hard. I felt every word he was saying. I had to learn from not pitching my ideas too soon cause Iโ€™m not really good with my words when it comes to explanations. Now if I ever have a thought that came from God or Iโ€™m believing for something, Iโ€™m learning to be patient & just write it down, maybe even live it out if I canโ€™t explain it. Iโ€™m also learning to step back if I showed too much to people. Itโ€™s good practice. Love this!

  26. Thank you…I have learn so much from your videos. And the words I hear changes my life every time!

  27. That's how I feel about my pictures and what I hear and see. I feel confident about it, I'm trusting God in what I see, hear. I'm waiting ๐Ÿ˜Š it great some times lol

  28. Please help to bring support even if itโ€™s just a view to a fellow believer in Christ my biking account Instagram @Jamie__Romoser
I feel God is trying to lead me into a new form of ministry for planting subtle seeds of faith to my age range
Itโ€™s been a weird and strange time being a believer in my age range it seems so many people my age donโ€™t believe it makes me deal left out segregated from my own age group i even feel itโ€™s effecting my socialization within society but Iโ€™m trying to seek first godโ€™s kingdom. Iโ€™ve been pressed by the Holy Spirit to write this
    Revelation 6:5-6
5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a denarius, and three measures of barley for a denarius; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine"

Take heed the voice may be commanding the listeners of the future to not damage the oil in the world, the crux which forewarns for the destruction that can follow suit thus after. With global emissions from cars, I believe will cause and or help the fiery lake of hell to be made, from the global emission ozone layer damage may cause the temperatures of the oceans to rise. Thus a fiery lake which will cause devastating impacts on all life. The black horse represents famine which means a lack a scarcity. If oil starts to dwindle, millions will starve from lack of provisions since we use trucks to transport most food into towns and cities. The grain for a days wages may symbolize the wasted food in the world, every piece of meat or vegetables that get thrown away in the trash that can be edible, is wasted resources and energy, time put in a living creature a whole existence to only be rotted in the trash transported with oil turned into scum in a bag. So in turn I believe the mysteries of bicycles are here to help, not only the damaging of oil but to also help save the planet and all life for future generations hereafter.
