LATINX Heritage Poem reading with Author Javier Ávila

You are every Puerto Rican who left the
sugarcane field for a mainland factory job making lowly wages and awaiting
equal treatment from fellow American citizens who refused to see. You hijo or
every tear of the Taino whose land was ripped away by greed disease and hate.
You are all of them their truth and the distortions of their truth, in the
centuries the continents, the ocean seas and rivers that flow into your being and
reflect the rainbow that has spread into your eyes where in chaotic harmony they celebrate at last and in a multitude of languages
they scream I am the future of America. I am the future of America so el futuro de
America. I am the future of America. When you see me you’ll see yourself. Thank You.
