“Mar Adentro”: A Poem by Ramón Sampedro (1943-1988)

The sea inside, the sea inside. And in the weightlessness of the deep where dreams are realized two wills meet to fulfill a wish. A kiss ignites the life like a flash of lightning and thunder and in a single metamorphosis my body is no longer mine, it is like penetrating the center of the universe. The most innocent of hugs and the purest of the kisses until we are seen reduced into a single desire. Your gaze and my gaze are as an eco repeating, without words, “deeper”, “deeper” until we are the farthest beyond *all* of the blood and of the bones. But I wake always, and always do I wish to be dead, to continue with my mouth tangled in your hair.
