Phil Kaye – "Succulent"

when you called to say after our fifth morning together that my travel was too difficult for you and this had to end I was in the market and had just bought a succulent with round leaves like plump emeralds promising an easy and long survival I carried it home with both hands committed to its nominal care the plant lasted a few months until a particularly long trip away the death of a plant so visual the discoloration of the skin the limp extremities laying to rest on the dirt I wondered aloud about repotting it perhaps more water and closer attention a spot in the apartment with direct sunlight easier to just get another one comes the new voice from the other room [Applause]

  1. Phil Kaye – Succulent (lyrics)

    When you called to say
    After our fifth morning together
That my travel was too difficult for you and this had to end
I was in the market and had just bought a succulent
With round leaves like plump emeralds
Promising an easy and long survival
I carried it home with both hands
    Committed to it's nominal care
The plant lasted a few months
Until a particularly long trip away
The death of a plant so visual
    Discoloration of the skin
The limp extremities laying to rest on the dirt
I wondered aloud about repotting it
Perhaps more water and closer attention
A spot in the apartment with direct sunlight
Easier to just get another one
Comes the new voice from the other room

  6. My plants are dieing too, so maybe that is why my life is falling apart, or maybe my life is falling apart because my plants are dieing or maybe nothing matters any more and I just need to let my self get more sun, more water, more attention, oh crap that's a plant
