  1. So forgive yourself for the decisions you have made, the ones you still call mistakes…

  2. I can’t place my finger on exactly why I love this poem, but I’ve listened to this too many times to count.

  3. Looking down, another new… School.

And in the decades, regard looking up the gift they can't deflate.

  4. Man her poetry speaks to my soul, I wish I could thank her for her beautiful mind and words

  5. If you grow up the type of woman men want to look at,
You can let them look at you.
But do not mistake eyes for hands or windows or mirrors.
Let them see what a woman looks like.
They may have not ever seen one before.

If you grow up the type of woman men want to touch,
You can let them touch you.
Sometimes, it is not you they are reaching for.
Sometimes it is a bottle, a door, a sandwich, a Pulitzer β€” another woman.
But their hands found you first.
Do not mistake yourself for a guardian or a muse or a promise or a victim or a snack.
You are a woman β€” skin and bones, veins and nerves, hair and sweat.
You are not made out of metaphors, not apologies, not excuses.

If you grow up the type of woman men want to hold,
You can let them hold you.
All day they practice keeping their bodies upright.
Even after all this evolving it still feels unnatural.
Still strains the muscles, hold firms the arms and spine.
Only some men will want to learn what it feels like to curl themselves into a question mark around you,
Admit they do not have the answers they thought they would by now.
Some men will want to hold you like the answer.
    You are not the answer.
    You are not the problem.
You are not the poem or the punch-line or the riddle or the joke.

Woman, if you grow up the type men want to love,
You can let them love you.
Being loved is not the same thing as loving.
When you fall in love, it is discovering the ocean after years of puddle jumping.
It is realizing you have hands.
It is reaching for the tightrope when the crowds have all gone home.

Do not spend time wondering if you are the type of women men will hurt.
If he leaves you with a car alarm heart, you learn to sing along.
It is hard to stop loving the ocean even after it has left you gasping β€” "salty."
So forgive yourself for the decisions you've made.
The ones you still call mistakes when you tuck them in at night and know this:
Know you are the type of woman who is searching for a place to call yours.
    Let the statues crumble.
You have always been the place.
You are a woman who can build it yourself.
    You are born to build.

  19. It is her birthday today and this video randomly popped up on my timeline. happy birthday Sarah!

  20. It seems to me that these words are true empowerment to a woman. Claiming oneself and being responsible for and to oneself… this is what I want for my daughter someday.

    I found this very touching.

  21. Sarah Kay will visit the Philippines this month… 2019 and am still falling in love with her. She'll be in the country with Phil Kaye. 😍😍😍

  22. empowering, yet sympathetic at the same time. nowadays too many people shame women for being human- it takes considerable amount of strength in being vulnerable and opening up to another soul.

  23. β€œDo not mistake yourself for a guardian. A muse. Or a promise. Or a victim. Or a snack.” Necessary reminders.

  25. "You are a woman skin and bones nerves and hair, you are not metaphors"
    Felt that really hard

  26. Eyes that looks at you doesn't equate to hands that could violate you, nor mirrors that reflects their judgements as a person that they think you are.

  27. "It is hard to stop loving the ocean even though it has left you gasping, salty. So forgive yourself for the decisions you have made, the ones you still call mistakes when you tuck them in at night"

  28. Blah blah blah what a drag talking about with me and watch how she know would have been white shittim and let's talk about what a woman needs a woman feeds and what a woman needs to do is to be able to seed and to be able to see all right

  29. I love this. Being a woman is not just being successful or strong or stoic. It is about knowing to be vulnerable, to be trusting, accepting, and caring. It is about loving someone and accepting you can get hurt and still move on when you need to. And continue to believe in your own identity as unique, present, and special.

  30. Men Spent handreds of years making metaphores of Love about woman,
Today, Woman are making metaphors that degrades men and what they give everyday to their lover.
    Don't u think that this could be a hatered message ! ?
If you are a woman, and you have problems Then Solve your problems and don't blame Others including Men or Woman..

    The place.”

  33. "It is hard to stop loving the Ocean". Yea, it is, it's so hard to stop that you don't want to. You will suffer through the salt spray for the sake of continuing to love the waves that crash ashore. For the sake of being able to drift away in the currents, to be carried away from whatever holds you down. Yet, you never let go. You go some ways and return to the sand. Never do you truly let yourself float away, because you're too scared. Too scared that the water will burn your lungs– as it has done before. Too scared the water won't let you come back up– as it has done before. Yet all the same you continue to love because it's the Ocean. It didn't mean to hurt you and it's still the most beautiful thing out there. You wish to rest, to lift your feet off the ground and lean into the water abyss. But in the end, you never do.

  34. Sometimes, it is not you they are reaching for , sometimes it is a bottle… but their hands got you first…

    Interesting piece
