  1. Poor Tom is walking on thin ice by surrendering so much of his soul and substance, as he did at the end of the story, to his Dear Sophia. He would be the most hen-pecked husband in the world for the rest of his days if he shows no more mettle than he did throughout the story and especially with his Dear Sophia at the end. His being 'good' is tiresome. There won't be and never has been a person of that nature. Even Jesus got irate and put the whammy on the fig tree.
