The NFL Takes a Knee in Protest of Trump: The Daily Show

On Friday night, President Trump
went to Alabama to campaign for a
Republican Senate candidate. Although I don’t remember
the candidate’s name or anything about him because,
instead, Trump decided to attack the NFL. Today, if you hit too hard,
right, if they hit too hard, 15 yards!
Throw him out of the game. They had that last week. I watched for
a couple of minutes. And two guys, just really,
beautiful tackle. Boom! 15 yards. The referee gets on television, his wife is sitting at home;
she’s so proud of him. They’re ruining the game. (laughter) Like, forget being president, what kind of a human being
wants more brain damage? Like, how can one person
be on the wrong side of everything in history? I’m just waiting. Like… (cheers and applause) I’m just… I’m just waiting
for Trump to be, like, (mimics Trump): “What’s with all
these seat belts, folks? “I remember a time when people
weren’t afraid “to go through the windshield
head first. “Head first, dust yourself off, shake hands and do it again.” (cheers and applause) (normal voice):
What are you talking about? And also, and also,
who is Donald Trump to say that football
is too soft? Really? You play golf, a sport
where the biggest danger us when you aren’t even playing. That? That? But Trump’s
comments on tackling, they-they barely registered
in the news, because all of Trump’s speeches are basically like
gas station bathrooms. Right? You can only really complain
about one thing at a time. You know? It’s like, “Yeah, I know the sink’s broken,
but I’m more concerned “about the dead body in
the stall next to mine. That’s, that’s my issue.” And for most people,
the most outrageous thing was what the president
said next. You see those people
taking the knee when they’re playing our
great national anthem. (audience reacts) Wouldn’t you love to see
one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects
our flag, to say get that son of a bitch
off the field right now? Out. He’s fired. He’s fired! I like…
I like how he remembered it was his catchphrase
only after he’d said it. (imitates Trump): “He’s fired.
Oh, wait– he’s fired!” So, all right, so just
so we’re on the same page, when Nazis were protesting
in Charlottesville, Trump said, “Some of these
were very fine people, “very fine people,
And aren’t we all Nazis, really? Aren’t we all, huh?
In some way, huh?” But then, when black football
players protest peacefully by taking a knee
during the anthem, he calls them sons of bitches
who should be fired? Now, look, I don’t know if
Trump is racist, but I do know he definitely prefers
white people to black people. I can say that with confidence.
With confidence. (cheering, applause) And also, and also, if
Donald Trump’s greatest concern is the disrespecting
of the American flag, you know what should
really piss him off? The Confederate flag,
that’s what should piss him off. ‘Cause that’s basically waving
a picture of your ex around. That’s what that is. That flag is disrespec… It’s like-it’s like
waving a picture of your ex. And your girlfriend’s like,
“Hey. Hey, that’s really disrespectful to me.”
And you’re like, “Oh, no, this has
nothing to do with you. “I’m just honoring my heritage. And also I’m building a monument
of Susan on the front lawn.” So, on the one hand,
you have sons of bitches, on the other hand, you have the president of the United
States saying a private citizen should be fired
for expressing an opinion that the president doesn’t like, which sounds
very dictatory to me. All right? Because when Trump
tells the NFL owners “You should fire these players,”
if they don’t fire the players, they’re basically going against
the president, right? And if the players take a knee, now they’re going
against the president. But you realize
until this weekend, the knee had nothing
to do with the president. Nothing at all to do with Trump. At all. Colin Kaepernick… Colin
Kaepernick started kneeling back when Obama was in office. This had nothing
to do with Donald Trump. And luckily,
to the NFL’s credit, they stood up
to the bully in chief. REPORTER: The president
versus the players. Hundreds of athletes sending
a message to President Trump. REPORTER 2: From coast to coast,
even in London, players sending that message to the president
from the football field, linking arms like Patriots
quarterback Tom Brady, hundreds kneeling,
some raising fists. REPORTER 3: The majority
of Steelers players choosing to stay in the locker room until after
the anthem was over. Some singers
even showing their solidarity, taking a knee
along with players. REPORTER 4: Many owners
taking the field, throwing their support
behind their teams. Owners from eight teams,
during the anthem, side by side
with their players. O-Okay, wait, hold up. Who, uh… Who the hell
is that with the mustache? I… I didn’t know you could
make enough money in vaudeville to buy a football team.
That’s, uh… That’s a lot of money. But it was important…
it was important that the weekend’s protests included
not just the NFL players, but the owners, too. ‘Cause when you think
about how powerful this is, a lot of these owners
supported Donald Trump. Yeah. So you know it hurts
his Horcrux to see them taking the players’ side
in this standoff. You know it got to him. It also makes for the world’s
easiest Where’s Waldo?, right? Just try and figure out who
pays the other people to play. Who-who do you think… who do you think is not playing?
Who’s paying? So after America’s
most popular sport turned on the commander in chief,
uh, he did what any insane person would do in this
situation– he doubled down. When you get on your knee
and you don’t respect the American flag or the anthem, that’s not being treated
with respect. This has nothing to do
with race. I’ve never said anything
about race. This has nothing to do with race
or anything else. This has to do with respect
for our country and respect for our flag. I think it’s very disrespectful
to our country. Oh. First of all, nicely played. -(applause)
-Nicely played. Uh, but let’s work through
what President Trump just said. These players aren’t trying
to disrespect the country. Let’s start with that. They’re
trying to peacefully protest police treatment of
black people in America, right? If they wanted to disrespect
the country, they wouldn’t kneel silently. They would do crazy things, like insult Gold Star families or make fun of POWs
like John McCain or say that America is morally
equivalent to Putin’s Russia. That’s the kind of (bleep)
they would do if they were trying
to disrespect the country. (cheering and applause) Like, did you know… did you know
that Colin Kaepernick used to sit on the bench
during the anthem? That’s what he used to do, sit
on the bench during the anthem, until a former NFL player who
is also a veteran, Nate Boyer, told Kaepernick, “Look, man, there’s a better way
to do this.” We sort of came
to a middle ground, where he would take a knee
alongside his teammates. Soldiers take a knee in front
of a fallen brother’s grave, you know, to show respect. He said,
“I think that would be… I think… I think
that would be really powerful.” Yeah. So you see there,
Kaepernick changed his protest to take a knee,
because, clearly, he does respect the troops. And, still, President Trump
called him out in a way that he never did to the Nazis
in Charlottesville. So, in my opinion, this has
everything to do with race. And if you say it doesn’t, I-I just think it’s very
disrespectful to the country.

  1. The man with Jacksonville jaguars is shahid khan he is the richest man in pakistan with a net worth of 8.8 billion dollars and also owns alot of other shit.

  2. If everyone from sea to shining sea would just stop buying products that were made in communist countries. I'm NOT a Walmart shopper either because back when Sam Walton was building his stores, he told the American people that nothing on the shelves of his store would come from foreign countries. But then Mr. Walton passed away God rest his soul. Now the family saw more profits with imported goods. Is that what greed does to people? The love of money, greed and more power!
I try and watch what I purchase. I look at the label to see where it came from. If it came from a communist country, a country who bleeds us for millions of our tax dollars that never pays it back, or a country where the people hate the American people, I put the product back on the shelf. I go online and search for what I'm looking for but I make sure that it's made right here in American where quality products are made!
So go online and search for U.S. made products first people! I personally won't buy NIKE anything until they bring the manufacturing back to this country. When it comes to my next pair of shoes I'll look into New Balance because their made in America!
Now tell me this so I can understand more about it. The white people and cops around the country are racist and picking on black people? Well I don't know what the percentage is, but why are our prisons and jails full of more black people than white people? If the police around the country are racist, why are there black people on the police force as with all the other races trying to uphold the laws? What race seems to be committing more of the crimes nation wide?
Now there are so many blacks that are still reverting to the days of slavery in this country. Well how many of their ancestors were slaves? How many of the slaves were actually captured by white people for slavery? How many blacks were captured by another tribe in Africa that was at war with a certain tribe and the captives were sold as slaves by their own black race of people?
Don't blame us for your so called oppression! If you can't stand for this countries nation anthem and if you don't like this country, YOU CAN LEAVE this country and find out what it's like to live elsewhere!
I could say more but I just don't have the time.

  3. AMERICA MAYBE WE SHOULD ALL TAKE A KNEE:
In August 2016, San Francisco Quarterback Colin Rand Kaepernick willingly immersed himself into controversy, by refusing to stand for the playing of the national anthem in protest, of what he deemed were wrongdoings, against African Americans and minorities in the United States. With his historical convictions and positions on social issues, he refused to stand for the national anthem. Kaepernick stated "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag, for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told this to, NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game.
"To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way”. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder." Kaepernick’s protest has nothing to do with the military or the flag, In fact, Kaepernick stood and clapped on the sidelines when members of the military were recognized on the field. He stated, “I have great respect for the men and women that have fought for this country. I have family, I have friends that have gone and fought for this country. This country isn’t holding up their end of the bargain. Men and women that have been in the military have come back and been treated unjustly, being murdered in the streets by the country and on the land they have fought for. That’s not right.” For instance lets Look at how the veterans administration have treated them.
In response to the NFL players who have taken a Knee supporting Kaepernicks position on this issue. President Trump criticized the National Football League broadly and athletes who kneel during the national anthem specifically. He has stated the NFL owners should “fire the son of bitches”
Article One of the Constitutions states” Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Civil and political rights are a class of laws that protect individuals' freedom from infringement by governments, social organizations, and private individuals. They ensure one's ability to participate in the civil and political life of the society and state without discrimination or repression.
Civil rights also includes the ensuring of peoples' physical and mental integrity, life, and safety; protection from discrimination on grounds such as race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, color, age, political affiliation, ethnicity, religion, and disability and individual rights such as privacy and the freedoms of thought, speech, religion, press, assembly, and movement.
In September 1777 George Washington took a knee at Valley Forge. Abraham Lincoln's famous Gettysburg address, he echoed Jesus' immortal words, " a house divided against itself cannot stand." Mark 3:25 Perhaps now, more than ever, it is imperative that we stand together, kneeling before God and in an attitude of humility and holiness while reaching out to those around us in an effort to both heal and unite our divided land in God we trust.
In 1965, civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. took a knee during the march in Selma. The Selma to Montgomery marches were three protest marches, held in 1965, along the 54-mile (87 km) highway from to the state capital of Montgomery. The marches were organized by nonviolent activists to demonstrate the Selma, Alabama desire of African-American citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote, in defiance of segregationist repression, and were part of a broader voting rights movement underway in Selma and throughout the American South. By highlighting racial injustice, they contributed to passage[citation needed] that year of the Voting Rights Act, a landmark federal achievement of the Civil Rights Movement.
For instance what would happen if, organizations like “Me To” Black Lives Matter,” Phile Chionesu and Asia Coney of the million woman march Moveon.org  ” “ACT UP” Earth Justice” and Border Angels all would start taking a knee. Not just at sporting events but at conferences rally's, marches, and in the hallways and offices our legislative politicians. It seems that when Colin Rand Kaepernick first start talking about social issues, no one was listening. But once he took a knee in protests of social injustices He got the attention of the whole country, including the President Of the United States. Maybe If we follow his lead, our lawmakers will listen more carefully to the morality of these issues. Thus creating more solutions instead of creating biases, fears and division among the people who have elected them. This has nothing to do with the NFL You cant buy tar constitutional subcontracts. Their constitutional r with pal as it is more of
“MAYBE WE SHOULD “ALL TAKE A KNEE”

  4. Always finding somethung to complain about while completely overlooking the cause

  5. Coming from Huntsville, I remember that day. I was over my father's house when someone came up to me and told me that when he visited, they put up temporary fences around housing projects close about a mile from the convention center he spoke at. Sounded very Gestapo-ish, plus I remember you couldnt go on any main street without police in heavy presence patrolling. That day seemed very surreal and scary…

  6. still don’t understand why so many republicans, who are so “patriotic” and pro-constitution, condemn people for peacefully exercising their freedom of speech. will never understand it. i don’t give a shit if you personally believe it’s disrespectful, that’s not a legit basis to be constantly knocking them down.

  7. If Al Davis were still alive he'd be drooling at the thought of snatching up all those talented, fired protesters from other teams! "Go ahead and fire them! We'll make 'em Raiders and beat all of your asses to jelly on the way to the Super Bowl!" RIP Al Davis…

  8. I … i don't understand. How is kneeling disrespectful? I get the impression that kneeling is the act of paying utmost respect to something or someone. Unless that's not the um … official way to respect US' anthem?

  9. Man how did he become the President ?Does Americans go nuts or something in the voting day or the trump bribes everyone with 50$ and a beerbottle and said drink this & f**k America with me and people say Yeaaaahhhh we can do that😂😂😂😂

  10. MAGA , bitches. Keep crying. Bottom line is this. Our national anthem is not a time or place to protest.

  11. I swear to god, Trevor can always be a preacher that will always talk about the absolute truth

  12. Trump's still in office because the people that could impeach him are so old they were there when the Washington Monument was completed…😐

  13. America has been made great by these players,,,,respect to NFL players MUST BE GUARANTEED…

  14. 3:20 I've been saying that gorever! If you have a cobfederate glag you are our (Americans) enemy! The Confederate army lost the war!… Flat out… Their ideals lost and should died with that lost. But anti-americans, non progressive americans REALLY THINK THEY HAVE AMERICAN IDEALS! THEY REALLY THINK THEY ARE MORE AMERICAN. NO, THEY LOST. THIS ISNT YOUR COUNTRY THEN. JUST BY BIRTH. And that's not good enough. You have to be able to live here and control your actions. Not become a domestic terrorist.

  15. If it's too hot, get out of the kitchen. The reason they make the millions is because of talent and RISK.

  16. I dunno about Trump, but kneeling is a form om respect imo… If they had burnt the flag THAT would've been dissrespectful….

  17. Trump and his supporters care more about disrespecting a piece of fabric then they do about disrespecting peoples existence.

  18. Trevor=, “ how can someone be on the wrong side of everything” trump makes it happen

  19. I don't know, America. If you don't fire Mr Trump right now, America will soon be on fire for real.

  20. "Really beautiful tackle"

They love seeing us shoot guns and basketballs. Running with footballs or running from the police

  21. Trump's america is definitely morally equivalent to Putin's Russia. There is no way to hide it

  22. Can someone explain to me what the knee signifies, I am South African

  23. Kaepernick is a Castro idealist, take a knee turned out to be less about BLM and more about endorsing and campaigning for Hillary!!! And along came Antifa!!!
While women and Black employment rate has been the highest ever under Trump!!!!
    So racist Trump is!!!!
Let's not forget how anyone who stood for the anthem got attacked physically, verbally and online.
Just shows how dictatorlike Trump is. And again let's not forget Antifa, or those that vandalised Trump's Hollywood star. Good for them.
And just to show how intolerant Trump is, more than 50% of working class black ppl voted for Trump, and most of them are called racial slurs for being Trump supporter, more Trump supporters are attacked by SJW and families literally ostracize their own for being conservative. And Trump is intolerant.

  24. Peacefully protesting police brutality on the black community. Thats why they are kneeling.

  25. IT WASN’T ABOUT THE FLAG IT WAS ABOUT POLICE BRUTALITY AND DISCRIMINATION

  26. At 6:16 , there's a spelling error in the news. "county" supposedly "country".

  27. What's weird is that in church when you kneel it is in humility and respect!

  28. Taking a knee is showing more respect than just putting your hand on your chest or just standing. It's basically bowing down. You do this for the Pope, The Queen and Any one of Honor. They got it twisted.

  29. Not my president Obama last president I had 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

  30. black man knees during anthem Trump, “They are ungrateful and being disrespectful”.
White man knees during anthem Trump, acts like it’s not happening “everyone is free and can protest anyway they want as long as it’s peaceful”.

  31. I'm starting to worry that the US is the biggest threat facing western civilization today. I feel for now they should be stripped of legislative power, until the nation can agree on a path forward for their country.

  32. ESPN…we want our fans to be separate from politics, unequal
    and uninformed…thank you very much…

  33. Back when Dems still had sime steam. It's the end of May and the left is already lookin WHOOPED! What chu gon do?

  34. Once again- well said, Trevor.
    Very well said.
    I love this show.

  35. He is a Narcissist. He honestly thinks everything is about him. That's why he needs to be impeached. He is not in his right mind. He wants to destroy anything he can grab. He is dangerous.

  36. When you DODGE THE DRAFT OR INDUCTION and PRETEND that something is wrong, when clearly there is not anything physically wrong, When I was in the Military we call that a COWARD …. How can one pretend to Love the country so much try to throw others under the bus but ran and hid away until the smoke was clear and will sacrifice nothing but live on the backs of those that gave some and some that gave all … Even have the nerve to open ones mouth about protesting anything at all.

  37. Trevor Noah thinks everything is about race and it’s disrespectful to kneel for what many have died for Trevor Noah is the biggest racist on tv and even though people don’t agree with the nazi crap we can’t stop their freedom of speech just like we can’t stop the kneeling but we can chose not to see the nazis because they barely ever have any media coverage where the nfl almost completely dominates espn for over half the year it’s always seen and if you wanna be not racist how about having police held accountable for their actions and tried in a criminal court instead of suspension no matter what race they violate it’s not about race it’s about getting police who are above the law in check when you make it only about race nothing gets done but division of people in the country

  38. Wait I know what's wrong with trump he's an ancient god that feeds off pain, anger, and instability.

  39. Says the guy who didn't know he had to put his hand over his heart for the national anthem, so much for "rules" and "integrity". What a putz.

  40. Kneeling for the FLAG is not protesting Trump. It’s protesting America. We should ask ourselves why we do this.

  41. Athletes have worked since they were children to be professional athletes, when their president is a bankrupt celebrity, who got his wealth from his parents and dodged the draft like 3 times. What about that? Not to mention that taking a knee started before he was elected. As an army veteran I thought we fought and stood for the freedom to express yourself as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else. So if I kneel in church I’m disrespecting Jesus and not showing humility? Stay divided! That’s what they want…

  42. Dont you like to see all these american people that respect themselves say to him ……..you are fireeeeeed !!!!!!!!

  43. You are dumb they are disrespecting our country if it is indirectly stop pushing your anti trump and anti white campaign to the masses. This is why the media has no reputation in the eyes of the public

  44. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them needs fired. Let the sorry anti american pos go find real work..

  45. I just realized that when President Trump says they disrespect America, our country, the flag, he means me, me, me. He’s a sneaky genius.

  46. I got in trouble in school when I first started not standing or saying the pledge of allegiance back in '98 but I said it was a religious issue and they said I was lying and disrespecting our troops and I responded that I am not gonna salute a piece of cloth that represents empire rule across the world like Rome and Britain did. I said in my religion I only pledge my allegiance to one thing and that is my creator, and he doesn't like how America is acting like almost all fallen empires before it and I'm on Gods side not a patch of dirt or some cloth and stitching. Especially when one of the first idea's was freedom and the second was slaves….. God makes more sense… scratch that I said…. Lucifer makes a lot more sense. After all that they made me go see a psychologist and after we had a few sessions he wrote a note to the teacher saying that I am well adjusted and probably knows the way the world works better than them (the teacher and guidance counselor that recommended me to the psychologists) ….. I love my brain but I think I would've fit in around the Woodstock error or somewhere in the 23rd or 24th century.

  47. Really ? P trump Really??? I mean I worry every time I hear him speak

  48. America is on of the only countries not run by a dictator where we fucking WORSHIP the flag and anthem. Most people in other countries don’t even know the anthem. And those countries are more successful than us.

Just proves jumping the flag does nothing and we should take into consideration a protest and try to fix what’s wrong with the country.

  49. I'm a little lost .. I'm not a sports guy. But I do see a lot of time in football or basketball they take a knee for praying or a little team meeting. … why is it a big deal now.. and why the hell Is that dumbass (Trump) caring about this.. do some important government work..

  50. Can Trevor’s reaction at 0:33 be a gif meme?? Please!!! Thats gonna be the gif I use Everyday!!! Especially on Twitter 😂😂 at someone’s tweets.

  51. "What kind of person wants more brain damage ?" Well probably the kind who are not equiped…

  52. It's utterly disgraceful to take a knee during the National Anthem. It's disrespectful to the country and every citizen. Regardless of your reasons, no conversation is going to move forward without first establishing basic mutual respect.

  53. Chump needs to get on his fuckin knee and stop worrying about the next man chump needs to take that narcissist controlling bullshit somewhere else why do people waste their fuckin time talking about something so fuckin petty and stupid when was kneeling down for a fuckin piece of fuckin cloth so much more Important then people having health care and hungry kids all over the fuckin world homeless kids all over the fuckin world this is what is important to me and it should be to everyone else that's has a heart why r we talking about a piece of fuckin cloth when there is kids/babies that dont have a fuckin piece of cloth to cover up with what the fuck is wrong with u people.

  54. President Trump is a wreaking ball of truth. The democrat just goes crazy gossiping and slandering because they are losers and because they were fed lies thru this stupid guy and the lying media. Trump 2020.

THINKING ABOUT WHAT HE SAID ABOUT SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN BURNS ME UP I WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER FORGET WHAT HE SAID. #prouddisabledwomanveteran

  62. Ok dumbass. You cant say that Donald trump is disrespecting the nfl or disrespecting the "flag" when literly in 10-20 years if things aren't fixed the nfl is going to be turned into a pussy sport. Literly when you get a penalty for hitting to hard. Now if its helmet contact I can understand. But when it's a clean hit man to man and you get a penalty. That's when nfl is turning into a pussy sport.

  63. Bunch of disrespectful morons… I stand for the flag, and kneel for the cross… And no the Confederate flag is not racist, you morons just don't know history… And when someone tries to tell you the truth, you can't accept it

  64. Ok m an Asian and m confuseddddd…. in our culture kneeling down to someone or something is considered the sign of utmost respect and love.. like we kneel down to propose the woman we love.. or to a King in old times.. HOW ON EARTH is that disrespectful to a person or to an anthem or to anything..?? I mean Kneeling down is considered as symbol of "submission" world wide.. if anything those African American guys were probably submitting their lives to the freedom of America or something..🙄🙄

  65. @5:07 .. thats Shahid Khan… a Pakistani business man… the guy who is personification of American Dream.. the owner of Jaguar … search his story.. its one hell of an inspiring story.
