Working Class Hero – John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band

As soon as you’re born they make you feel small By giving you no time instead of it all Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all A working class hero is something to be A working class hero is something to be They hurt you at home and they hit you at school They hate you if you’re clever and they despise a fool Till you’re so fucking crazy you can’t follow their rules A working class hero is something to be A working class hero is something to be When they’ve tortured and scared you for 20 odd years Then they expect you to pick a career When you can’t really function you’re so full of fear A working class hero is something to be A working class hero is something to be Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV And you think you’re so clever and classless and free But you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see A working class hero is something to be A working class hero is something to be There’s room at the top they’re telling you still But first you must learn how to smile as you kill If you want to be like the folks on the hill A working class hero is something to be A working class hero is something to be If you want to be a hero well just follow me If you want to be a hero well just follow me

  3. In 70 's was modern to be in "left"! In France, Italy, Spain communist parties was very strong. In USA maybe not so strong. Probably Lennon was looking in "left", for commercial reason ! In 21 century this song is not actual ! The communism and USSR died 1991 ! Ha-ha!

  4. While so many focus on room at the top in California, for instance I see plenty of room at the bottom for the Hillary Clintons, and Maxine waterss, and Beto o'rourkes, and others trying to trade our freedoms (like the second amendment)for their safety during their planned civil war.

  5. if you want to be hero do not follow him, they hate you if you're clever and they dispose a yoko, listen to his rolling stone interview he did when releasing the album as he rants about Paul being a pig, and jagger's fag dancing to use Lennon's words, a lunatic,

  6. what would lennon do, drop acid do hard drugs marry yuko, die at 40. think he is bigger than Jesus

  7. So much truth and facts in this song . And i can't believe i never heard it till now ! but i think the line working class hero is something to be is ironic and sarcastic, the last line I don't think Lennon means literally . in a nutshell its about most of us become poorer and dream the horatio alger myth and the lazy ass few get richer and live off our " blood , sweat and tears " .

  8. The sad part of this video is that John Lennon was never a working class Hero. He was a spoiled cunt that never had to work for anything.

  9. They kill John bc his ideas of PEACE and LOVE !!!! Just as they did with Jesus !!!!!

  10. After we got Rocket man in honor of Elton John, and Boehmian Rhapsody in honor of Queen, I can't wait for the movie honoring The Beatles.

  11. by giving you no time instead of it all. I wonder how many kids in school feel like that now. But hey what can you do?

  13. Read more personnel Beatle story's in Brian Linford's book 'Mardi Gras Club Liverpool' Brian lived in the next street to Ringo when the area was heavily bombed in October 1940, Brian was 4 and lived in 23 Kinmel St., Ringo was 4 months old and lived at 9 Madryn St. Both very lucky to survive. Read this story in Brian's book.

  15. God is a concept by which we measure our pain, I’ll say it again. God is a concept by which we measure our pain.
    Don’t believe in Beatles.
I just believe in me, Yoko and me, and that’s reality.
    The dream is over.
I was the walrus, but now I’m John, and so dear friends you’ll just have to carry on.
    The dream is over.

  16. This song (& the entire album really) to me reflects that he was painfully lonely at this brilliant juncture of his short life.

  17. Job Vacancy: Working Class Hero – masses needed urgently to counter current Conservative rule. 'On The Streets' training provided.

  18. Great song and lyrics well written but I thing everybody should do 30 year's work then retire 👍🙏

  19. Odd song from a Man that was NOT "working class" …..
I got up every day for 42 yrs thinking I wish I could sleep another 15 min …..
    But I couldn't ….
Lennon wouldn't know about that ….
He only lived 40 years …..

  20. Clearly inspired by Dylan's "Masters of War". But still an amazing piece of work nonetheless.

  21. John Lennon despised that false concept of the
"working class hero" with all the byting sarcasm that he could put into his lyrics! Anyone who does not understand that, has understood nothing!

  22. This music is terrible for you, it sent me in a downward spiral that took alot of doing to get out of. Don't listen to this cynical crap. Try your best in life, you can do it. Live a meaningful life and put the drugs down, I'm at the top now because I changed my attitude and tried hard. I have 6 pack abs, big house, children, beautiful wife, great health, a boat… The suffering this crybaby music influences you toward is unneeded, TRY YOUR BEST! I recommend watching here on YT, "Charles Bukowski-Go all the way"

  23. Never was a big fan of the Beatles or much of the solo work the members did, but this is one of my favorite songs ever written. It's so amazingly relevant and fitting. Makes me reflect on my own life. I'm a straight up blue collar middle class American and I bust my ass at a challenging job every day to support myself and my kids (single father). And the way they treat me, as if I'm a god, brings a tear to my eye and makes me feel like I really am a working class hero.

  24. Beautifully done video. Nice Tribute to a Beautiful Man.
Thanks! I love the touch of having John's favorite 'William the Gangster" on the night stand.

  25. Amazing words. So true. We are just a slaves of this fucking rulers up there. They also kill Lennon. They couldn't let him to speak the truth

  26. Lennon working class? Hahahahahaha

Hypocrisy like every leftie until today (including Roger Waters).

  27. "Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV, and you think you're so clever and classless and free, but you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see." Best lyrics ever.

  28. There's room at the top, they are telling you still. But first you must learn how to smile as you kill.

  29. Makes me happy to see 2.5 million views for this. I was afraid people forgot about this classic

  30. The Best…
    John Lennon….
    Forever… Song…
    Only 2019 year….

  31. "There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill"

  32. As soon as you're born they make you feel small

Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to beWhen they've tortured and scared you for twenty-odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to beKeep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you… Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV

  33. All my Loves undoubtedly are Loves, unrequited, therefore; I continued, rising, step by step, the Scaffold of words, in the dark room of my soul; Because, I will one day be happy! Life is fights put out, fears put in! My soul is full of spewing words; Jesus, who am I? The Passion is a sonata of vehement deadly chords, played on the scaffold of the heart! The Passion is the heaven of the dead poets! The Poem puts eyelids, in the poet's vision! All women hate me, but one loves me! Women's Personality is in the eyes of understanding! Materialistic temples fill people's heads with words of stone! Wisdom enters through the eyes and out through the lips of the HEART! The sun sets in front of my house and strokes my broken chest! The Poet must show the guts of his love; in the squares and in the back! The Mendoza Wine, silences the heart, and ascends a passion! Depression is claussura of the heart, and the extreme balcony of imprudence!

  34. This song doesn't transcend "time", we're still in the same "time" it was written in. Things have just gotten worse and will continue to. One of the realest songs I've ever heard, nonetheless. Just read J. Edgar Hoover's FBI dossier on John Lennon.. I had no idea.. This man was assassinated by the government. COINTELPRO. Haldeman Memo.

  35. I can think of few rock poets who changed, evolved and improved more through the course of their careers, than John Lennon. I wish we still had him around today

  36. Everlasting lyrics.
And you think you're so clever and classless and free

But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see.

  37. A cliche riddled video of presumed working class life; obviously storyboard by some middle class idiot.
